Imaging for Windows Professional Edition
Version 2.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Supplemental Information

Getting Started Guide
---------------------
The Getting Started Guide, gstrtman.pdf, is located in the
Documentation folder where you installed Imaging for Windows
Professional Edition. To view and print the Getting Started
Guide, you can download Adobe's Acrobat Reader from www.adobe.com.

Installation
------------
If you install Imaging Professional multiple times without
uninstalling the software each time, the folder where you install
Imaging Professional may contain multiple installation log files
(*.isu). To remove these log files, you should uninstall Imaging
Professional and then manually delete any remaining installation
log files. You can then install Imaging Professional again.

If your Windows NT system uses multiple user profiles, you may need
to modify the Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Imaging shortcut to
point to kodakimg.exe instead of wangimg.exe.

On Windows NT, the uninstall procedure only clears the Imaging
preferences and settings for the user who uninstalls Imaging
Professional.

To uninstall the Imaging 3.x Server Access support, you must manually
delete the software as described in the Getting Started Guide. In
addition, you must also edit the Windows registry to remove the key
HKCU\Software\WOI\3.x. If you do not remove this registry key, the
Imaging application will still include the option to find Imaging
3.x Server documents. An error message appears if you then choose
this option.

Previous versions of Imaging Professional provided an option to back
up and restore Imaging for Windows 95. The backup folder (typically,
Program Files\Imaging Professional\Backup) is no longer used and can
be manually deleted.

The Setup program may underestimate the amount of space available if
you choose to install Imaging Professional on a Novell NetWare
drive.

ActiveX (OLE) Automation
------------------------
If, in ActiveX (OLE) automation, you set the TopWindow property of the
Application object to True, other windows may appear to be hidden. A
common cause is the Server Logon window that appears on initial
server requests.

If multiple windows have the TopWindow property set to True, then
the window that gets the property setting first appears on top of
the other windows.

In ActiveX automation, the FindOIServerDoc method of the ImageFile
object displays a Find dialog box that lets users search for
Imaging Server 1.x or 3.x documents. After a user selects a document
and clicks Open, this method closes the Find dialog box and returns
the selected document name and path. The method returns a null string
if the user clicks Cancel. You can use the document string that is
returned as input to the Open method of the ImageFile object. The
syntax is: ImageFileObject.FindOIServerDoc.

Application User Interface
--------------------------
You cannot undo or redo a Rescan operation.

You cannot drag a color or grayscale page to an AWD document. All
pages in an AWD document must be black and white.

You can only hyperlink to an object (for example, a URL or Word
document) if there is an application registered to handle that
type of object. To determine if an application is registered, you
can click the Start button, point to Run, and then enter the name
of the object (for example, http://www.eastmansoftware.com
or test.doc).

Image File Types
----------------
The maximum resolution at which XIF documents will be displayed is
150 x 150 dpi.

Microsoft Internet Explorer
---------------------------
If an image document is already open, Microsoft Internet Explorer
will open the document in read-only mode.

You may experience a crash if an HTML page in Microsoft Internet
Explorer calls the ShowFindDialog method.

You may experience a hang if an HTML page in Internet Explorer
4.0 uses the OCR ActiveX control. To avoid this circumstance, the
HTML page should set the ShowProgress property of the OCR ActiveX
control to False.

Microsoft Office Integration
----------------------------
If you drag an image document from a binder to the Desktop, an
invalid image document is created unless it is an AWD document. This
problem also occurs if you right-mouse click on a binder file (*.obd)
and click Unbind. To copy an image document from a binder, click on
Section -> Save as File or use the right mouse button to drag the
image document from the binder to the Desktop.

The Section -> View Outside function does not work with image
documents in a binder.

If you are using Microsoft Office 95, the icon for images in a
binder is a generic Windows icon instead of the Imaging icon.
This known anomaly does not affect the behavior of Microsoft
Office Binder. The Imaging icon is displayed if you are using
Microsoft Office 97.

When you resize an image embedded in a Microsoft Word document,
you should be viewing the Microsoft Word document at a zoom of 100%.

OCR and Document Recomposition
------------------------------
If you select an area of an image and then click Edit->Copy As Text
or choose Selection as the Page Range in the OCR dialog, Imaging
automatically analyzes and performs OCR on the selection. Any zones
within the selection are ignored.

PaperPort Links
---------------
When you use the Imaging Export link to export PaperPort documents
to the file system, you will receive an error if the document title
contains characters that are not valid in file names - for
example, * and /. Rename the document before you use the
Imaging Export link.

If the document comments contain carriage returns, only comments up to
the 1st carriage return appear in the Comments property of the TIFF
file produced by the Imaging Export link.

You may receive an error if you try to export a document with its
annotations. Check that the files Lead50.dll and Leaddib.drv in your
Windows\System folder are the same files that shipped with your
PaperPort software. Lead50.dll should have a size of 509K and a date
of 5/23/95 while Leaddib.drv should have a size of 38K and a date of
4/10/95. If you have different versions of those files on your system,
you must delete them and install PaperPort again.

Scan Button in Microsoft Word and Excel
---------------------------------------
You can add the Scan button to Microsoft Word and Excel without
repeating the installation. To install the Scan button, run the
program ADDIcon.exe. Type the qualifier /ADD after the program name
before you run it. ADDIcon.exe is located in the folder where you
installed Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.

You can remove the Scan button from Microsoft Word and Excel without
uninstalling Imaging for Windows Professional Edition. To remove
the Scan button, click the Start button and then point to Run. Locate
the program ADDIcon.exe. Type the qualifier /DELETE after the
program name before you run it. ADDIcon.exe is located in the folder
where you installed Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.

If your versions of Microsoft Word and Excel are in a different
language than Imaging for Windows Professional Edition, you may not
be able to install the Scan button. Note that you can choose
Insert -> Object -> Image Document in Word or Excel to perform
the same function.

You may need to manually exit Microsoft Excel after you install this
option.

If the Scan button in Microsoft Excel fails and indicates that the
document ScanImg.xla is already open, you may have multiple copies of
this file on your system. This circumstance can occur if you have
upgraded from Microsoft Office 95 to Microsoft Office 97 before you
installed this version of Imaging Professional. To resolve the
problem, delete the older version of ScanImg.xla, which is typically
found in the /Excel/Library folder where Excel represents the folder
where you installed Excel.

Scanning
--------
Imaging for Windows Professional Edition uses the TWAIN interface
to access TWAIN-compatible scanners. You can a view a list of
tested scanners at www.eastmansoftware.com.

With certain scanners, the In Progress dialog may become hidden during
a scan operation. Click on the scanner icon in the taskbar to
restore the dialog.

Eastman Software Imaging Server Access
--------------------------------------
If you are using Imaging Professional to access an Imaging 1.3.x
server on UNIX, you may need to install an update to the Imaging
Server.

Although the Imaging 3.x file named PASAPPC.DLL is included with
Imaging for Windows Professional Edition, the APPC protocol is not
supported.

If you receive the message "Cannot find required component" when you
click File -> Find Imaging Server Documents, you may have an
older version of VsFlex by VideoSoft installed on your system. To
resolve this situation, close Imaging, manually delete the file
vsflex32.ocx in your Windows System folder, and reinstall Imaging
for Windows Professional Edition.

When you view an Imaging Server 3.x image with markups, Imaging
converts the markups to corresponding annotations. The original
image is unmodified.

When you use the Find: Image Document dialog to locate an Imaging
Server document, the Date Modified tab does not distinguish between
the creation date or the last modified date for the document. The
later of the two dates is used in the search.

Documents containing forward slashes (/) are not added to the
application's MRU (Most Recently Used) list.

The MRU list contains the names of Imaging Server documents that
you recently accessed. If a server contains multiple documents with
the same name, Imaging displays the first document that it finds.
Note that if one of the documents was previously displayed and
remains in the display cache, then the cached document will be
displayed. The cache is automatically cleared when you exit the
application.

If you click File -> Save As to save an Imaging Server document
as a local file, you must use Windows naming conventions to name the
local file.

If you send an Imaging 1.x Server document that contains a forward
slash, only the characters after the last forward slash appear as the
label for the sent item.

If the Imaging 1.x Server is not accessible, the system does not
respond immediately and may, therefore, appear to hang as Imaging
Professional tries to retrieve the list of server volumes.

If an Imaging 1.x Server document contains references to pages in
a file that has been deleted, Imaging Professional may not handle
that document correctly.

If you try to retrieve archived documents from an Imaging Server 3.x
database that has never had an archive in a TCP/IP configuration,
the system does not respond and may, therefore, appear to hang. This
circumstance does not occur in a NetBIOS configuration.
